According to current EU law, the word "pálinka" can only be used to label products:

a.) Manufactured exclusively through fermentation and distillation of fruit or grape marc without any form of additive

b.) Produced from fruit or grape marc grown, distilled and bottled in Hungary, with the exemption of apricot pálinka made in four Austrian states.

c.) With alcohol content of at least 37.5 per cent and up to 86 per cent by volume.
